Who we are

Pool Water Calculator is published by a small independent editorial team. We build free calculators and plain-English guides for people who look after their own pools, and for anyone who wants to check a number before they buy, dose or build.

We are a publisher, not a pool company. We do not sell chemicals or equipment, we do not offer pool service, and we are not affiliated with any chemical brand, equipment manufacturer or pool builder. Content is credited to the Pool Water Calculator editorial team.

What we cover

The site is organized into five areas, each with its own calculators and guides.

  • Pool volume. Gallons and liters for rectangle, round, oval, kidney and above-ground pools, plus how long a hose takes to fill one.
  • Pool chemicals. Doses for chlorine, pH, alkalinity, calcium hardness, stabilizer and shock, plus a saturation index calculator.
  • Pool salt. How much salt to add, how to lower a high salt level, and how to size a salt chlorinator.
  • Pool cost. Installed cost by pool type and add-ons, and a yearly maintenance budget.
  • Pool water care. Target ranges, testing, and fixing green or cloudy water.

Everything is written for US pools first, with metric values alongside where they matter.

How we keep the numbers accurate

A calculator is only useful if you can trust its math, so we make ours checkable. Four rules govern every page.

  1. Formulas are published. Every formula and constant the calculators use is documented on our methodology page, exactly as written in the code, with worked examples you can repeat by hand.
  2. The math is tested. The volume and water-chemistry functions run against an automated test suite that checks them against hand-calculated reference values. The reference tables on each page are generated from the same code, so the tables and calculators always agree.
  3. Sources are cited. Target ranges and guideline levels credit their origin, such as the CDC, Taylor Technologies or the Trouble Free Pool community. Cost figures name the published cost guide they came from, and each page lists its sources at the bottom.
  4. Dates are shown. Every page shows when it was last updated, and cost ranges note when they were compiled, because prices change.

We do not invent statistics, survey results or test results, and we do not claim to have tested products. When sources disagree, as they often do on cost and timelines, we show each figure by name rather than picking the most convenient one.

How the site is funded

Pool Water Calculator is free to use and supported by advertising, including Google AdSense. Advertisers have no say in what we publish, and ads never change a calculator’s result. Our privacy policy explains how ads and cookies work on the site.

Safety comes first

Pool chemicals can cause burns and release dangerous gases when mixed. Our calculators give estimates, not instructions to override a product label. Never mix chemicals, always add chemicals to water rather than water to chemicals, keep acid and chlorine apart, and wear gloves and eye protection.

Corrections and feedback

If you find an error, a broken calculator or a source that no longer says what we cite it for, please tell us through our contact page. We review every correction, fix confirmed errors, and update the page date when we do.

Frequently asked questions

Is Pool Water Calculator free to use?

Yes. Every calculator and guide is free, with no account or sign-up. The site is supported by advertising, and ads never change a calculator's result or what a guide recommends.

Do you sell pool chemicals or recommend brands?

No. We do not sell products and we are not affiliated with any chemical brand or equipment maker. Calculators work by chemical type and strength, such as 10% liquid chlorine or 31.45% muriatic acid, so you can use them with whatever product you buy.

Can you come and look at my pool?

No. We are a publisher, not a pool service, so we do not offer on-site visits, repairs or emergency advice. For problems that need hands-on help, contact a local pool professional.
